Seeing what artists of all types are able to create with our products is what makes what we do so worthwhile and it is about time we put the spotlight where it belongs. With that said, we are proud to introduce our Maker of the Month, Carl Jacobson.

QUESTIONS

Driftwood - Featured Artist

How did you get into working with wood?

I started woodworking with my grandfather and got in to woodturning in my mid-20’s.

What’s your favorite piece that you have made so far in your career?

I think my favorite project would have to be the Millennium Falcon. I am a big Star Wars fan.

What’s something you’d like to make next?

I’ve done a few wood sinks on the lathe, but I’d like to make a sink/counter top combo without using the lathe.

What is your favorite Arbortech tool and why?

My favorite Arbortech tool so far is the TURBO Plane. It’s easy to control, even when doing detail work. Very little dust is a big plus as well of course.

Any advice for people wanting to get started?

There are so many resources now, if you’re thing about getting into woodworking or making in general. There’s no reason not to give it a try. Most woodworking stores offer classes woodworking and woodturning. Art centers also offer classes as well everything for pottery to blacksmithing. Even if you don’t have room for a shop, maker spaces have that covered too. There are more than 400 in the US.
