Seeing what artists of all types are able to create with our products is what makes what we do so worthwhile and it is about time we put the spotlight where it belongs. With that said, we are proud to introduce our Maker of the Month, Carl Jacobson.
If you are into woodturning, you are likely no stranger to Carl, especially if you ever visit YouTube. Based in Oregon, Carl, who operates under the handle of thewoodshop.tv along with his wife Robin, is a wildly skilled craftsman and content creator.
With his versatile skillset, Carl not only creates beautiful handmade work, but he also provides woodturning plans, projects and ideas for all skill levels. We reached out to Carl to learn a little bit more about him as an artist, his favorite pieces and much more.
How did you get into working with wood?
I started woodworking with my grandfather and got in to woodturning in my mid-20’s.
What’s your favorite piece that you have made so far in your career?
I think my favorite project would have to be the Millennium Falcon. I am a big Star Wars fan.
What’s something you’d like to make next?
I’ve done a few wood sinks on the lathe, but I’d like to make a sink/counter top combo without using the lathe.
What is your favorite Arbortech tool and why?
My favorite Arbortech tool so far is the TURBO Plane. It’s easy to control, even when doing detail work. Very little dust is a big plus as well of course.
Any advice for people wanting to get started?
