The Ball Gouge fits most 4″ (100mm) and 4 1/2″ (115mm) angle grinders. However, when choosing an angle grinder to suit the blade, you should look for the following features:
The Ball Gouge can be used on a variable speed, corded or cordless grinder, as long as it runs at a speed of 9000 RPM or higher.
Applying the correct cutting technique when using the Ball Gouge will ensure it runs smoothly on even the hardest woods.
Excessive bouncing and dust could also mean that the blade needs to be replaced.
Consider the direction in which the grain runs when carving with the Ball Gouge. Cutting along the grain will result in the tearing of the wood. Cutting across the grain will result in a smoother cut with minimal tearing.
The Ball Gouge cutter should be rotated when it feels blunt and doesn’t produce nice wood shavings. Excessive bouncing could mean that the blade needs to be replaced.
