What does my grinder need to fit the Industrial Woodcarver?

The Industrial Woodcarver fits most 4″ (100mm) and 4 1/2″ (115mm) angle grinders. However, when choosing an angle grinder to suit the blade, you should look for the following features:

  • An auxiliary handle to ensure easier balance, manage and control. Using the handle when carving not only improves user comfort and visibility but increases user safety.
  • A metal guard must be used and that can be rotated and fixed to 45 degrees
  • On/Off switch to be positioned on the top or side
  • 550 Watts power, at a minimum
  • Should have a spindle thread of:
  • M14 (AUS and UK) |  M14 (Europe) | 5/8″ (North America)

The Industrial Woodcarver can be used on a variable speed or cordless grinder, as long as it runs at a speed of 9000 RPM or higher

How do I properly care for the Industrial Woodcarver?

Although tungsten carbide is a very hard material (150 Rockwell), it is also very brittle so any plunging or stabbing action may cause the teeth to crack and disintegrate. This is true of any carbide cutters such as router bits, general tooling, and saw blades.

Tungsten Teeth can be damaged (or broken) for several reasons including the following:

  • Working the cutter too vigorously such that the user ‘drops’ the cutter into/onto the surface of the wood rather than using a lighter starting cut. More pressure may be applied once the cutter has landed on the surface of the wood.
  • To avoid breakage, and to ensure that the screws are easy to unlock when they need to be rotated or replaced, it is important before every use (and every few hours during use) to unplug the grinder and unlock each screw, The felt (small piece of felt fixed against the revolving cam) must be and re-tighten. This ensures that the teeth are firmly secured.

IMPORTANT: Unlock and re-tighten the screws regularly.

How (and when) do I rotate the tungsten teeth?

The tungsten teeth are very tough and will cut hard abrasive timbers without rapid dulling. After several months or weeks (depending on the duration of use), turn the tooth approximately 1/4 turn to reveal a new sharp edge for carving

Why am I unable to loosen screw-holding teeth?

Possible cause: Build-up of resin
Solution: Soak overnight insolvent.
